Welcome! Tally ho!

Our B.V.I. Adventure is designed to give our family, friends and any other interested followers a look into the life of two expatriates making their way on the island of Tortola. Tortola is the largest island in the British Virgin Islands.

So, why did we move 2,000 miles away from our home in Knoxville, Tennessee? Michael accepted a position as the director of retail and international sales for a Caribbean clothing brand.

Cheers!

Day 55: The Last Resort

We wanted to go to dinner somewhere we hadn't been on Saturday night, so we picked The Last Resort.  It's a small (and I mean tiny) island just off of Trellis Bay on the East End of Tortola.  We had heard great things, but hadn't made it over there.  Michael had been in meetings all day, so he liked the idea of getting off the island.
All it takes is a quick call to the restaurant and they send the ferry right over.  On this Saturday night, the owner's son, Jeremy picked us up.  The ride only takes three or four minutes.  Oh, and take a look this photo - it is of a school of fish that swam right under the dock.

Okay, back to The Last Resort.  We were amazed when we walked up - we knew instantly this was a very special place.  It's hard to capture the feeling of The Last Resort in a photo because it truly is something that needs to be experienced.

We had the most delicious goat cheese tartelette to start, but once my mahi mahi arrived, we had some company at the table.  And when I use the words "at the table," that's exactly what I mean.  This guy jumped into my seat!

I spilled my wine I was so startled!!!  Oh, and check out the seats - they're oak barrels that have been painted white and carved in a way to accomodate seat cushions.  Very cool and comfortable too.  Beth, I think Brian will be making some after he sees them in June!

Anyway, one of the things that makes The Last Resort so special is the live music and the "singing chef."  There is such a tremendous history here.  Tony Snell who owns the place provided the after-dinner entertainment for years.  He made an appearance the night we were there.  That's him.

You have to check out Tony's book, Spitfire Troubadour. I plan on reading it this week. What a life this man has lived and what a legacy he will leave behind. His children now run the place.

Two members of the house band played on Saturday - they were fantastic and we had a great time!  The chef is the guitarist on the left, if you can make him out.

We will surely be taking friends back...this won't be our last time at The Last Resort!
