Welcome! Tally ho!
Our B.V.I. Adventure is designed to give our family, friends and any other interested followers a look into the life of two expatriates making their way on the island of Tortola. Tortola is the largest island in the British Virgin Islands.
So, why did we move 2,000 miles away from our home in Knoxville, Tennessee? Michael accepted a position as the director of retail and international sales for a Caribbean clothing brand.
Cheers!

Putting the "I" in BVI
One of our favorite photos is this one, taken back in December 2010 in front of the Soggy Dollar Bar on White Bay, Jost van Dyke:
So, when we went back there this week, we just had to replicate the photo! Only this time, Anna Drake makes the perfect "I" - doesn't she?
A full recap of our trip to Jost is in the works.

Saturday Routine
We're getting into a routine on Saturdays...
It starts off with an early morning SUP at Smuggler's Cove. The drive to West End gives Anna Drake a chance to nap. I love her reaction when she wakes up on the beach. Michael and I take turns on the paddleboard, before taking Anna Drake for a swim. She is loving the water more and more.

Then, we headed back to the pool for a quick dip and some "limin'" under the big umbrellas. By 3:00, it was time to head home for afternoon naps. Yes, plural. We had to take naps too!

By 11:30 it's time for her second nap of the day, so we put her in the car and head to Nanny Cay for lunch. There are two main lunch options at Nanny Cay. The Beach Bar serves salads, sandwiches, and pizza. The other restaurant is Gennaker's, located in the courtyard of shops and maritime businesses. We opted for Gennaker's on Saturday. We can never decide what to order, so Michael and I settled on splitting a delicious cold curry chicken salad on top of greens, and a spicy pork sandwich. Both were yummy!

The Secret is Out
No longer is Smuggler's Cove a quiet little beach, filled mostly with locals. Packed with rental cars and taxis, the sandy clearing in the sea grape trees looked more like an official parking lot on Sunday, despite the removal of the official "Smuggler's Cove" sign on the dirt road leading to the beach. My guess is that those who live in Belmont Estates above the cove may have taken it down in hopes of returning this beach to its calm escape...
New beach bars have popped up, but we are still loyal to Stephen's. {Remember? He was the star of our anniversary giveaway!}
Even though lounge chairs were hard to come by, we had a great time splashing in the water. It was so warm and Anna Drake loved it!
And we couldn't resist taking another underwater shot of Anna Drake's sweet little baby legs!
The water at Smugs is some of the most beautiful in all of the BVI, don't you agree?

Down on the Farm
On Friday afternoon, Michael and I took Anna Drake to the BVI's annual Farmer's Week. It was such a cool, breezy afternoon.
Farmer's Week is held on the grounds of the Agriculture Department each February. It gives local farmers a chance to share their crops with the community and even engage in some friendly competition!
I loved exploring the tent where the prize fruits and vegetables were on display. (We were dying to try the first place homemade ginger beer!)
Here's Anna Drake on top of the winning pumpkin!
We also showed her the bunnies, ducks, goats, pigs and cows.
I think she had fun, don't you?
We may have to go back tomorrow when more vendors will be selling their fresh fruits and vegetables. I talked Michael out of an impulse buy of sugar cane... What would we do with it??? I might have to search for some recipes that call for it.
